Life can be incredibly busy – living in Kent with my husband, Paul, and our five children keeps things lively! Finding moments of simple pleasure helps me navigate it all. I wanted to share a few small things that bring me joy:
Comedy Sketches: I have such fond memories of watching The Two Ronnies with my dad. Their famous Morris dancing sketch still makes me laugh today.
Making Rhubarb Crumble: We didn't have much money growing up, but my mum was a brilliant cook. Her rhubarb crumble was always my favourite, and recreating her recipe brings back a lot of warmth and comfort.
The Shawshank Redemption: This is one of my all-time favourite films because of its message: "Hope can set you free." It's such a brilliant phrase.
Escaping in a Book: Especially important when working with trauma patients, as I do now. Being transported into somebody else's head is the best form of relief. I recently read French Braid by Anne Tyler, which was brilliant, and I'm also a big JoJo Moyes fan.
Walking the Dog: I was never really a dog person, but my husband persuaded me, and now I love our walks with Holly, our spaniel cross.
Trips to Studland Bay: Nothing beats the lovely salty air! We always stay at Knoll House and love their old-style dessert table.
Wearing My Biker Jacket: A gift from my husband about 10 years ago. That doesn't mean I have to stop wearing it! I wear it with pride.
Cashmere Socks: The luxury I couldn't live without! I live in the countryside and there's nothing worse than having cold feet! (I buy mine from a company called Turtle Doves, which makes socks from recycled cashmere - bliss!)
Gigs with My Kids: Sharing experiences like seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers or attending Hootenanny together creates wonderful memories.
